Contemporary new build house replacing a dilapidated 1960s bungalow on the same site. Overlooking the river with spectacular views to the fells and open countryside, this home provides the occupants with an open plan comfortable home with a design that wraps the open plan living spaces around a terrace and their walled garden beyond.

Originally the brief was to refurbish and extend the existing bungalow but it soon became apparent that the level of alterations to the bungalow and compromises that would have to be made pointed towards replacing it with a new build house.

Energy Efficiency was at the heart of the design brief. This house incorporates high levels of insulation with its heating and hot water provided by an Air Source Heat Pump and solar panels. The house has fresh air provided via mechanical ventilation with heat recovery which uses a heat exchanger to warm the fresh air entering the house.

We engaged WK Design to assist us in the design of our new home. This is a very exciting but stressful process. We found WK Design to be re-assuring partners giving us confidence and choice at a time when so many crucial decisions need to be taken. They are able to listen and reflect upon our design choices as well as appreciate our wider needs and respond with a range of creative solutions which stay true to the brief.
