Carolyn Williamson and Paul Kitchin established WK Design Architects in 2012 having worked together for 9 years in a previous practice. We set out realising the importance of providing a personal service.

We are passionate about energy efficiency and have experience of delivering new build Passivhaus and low energy homes. We continuously strive to improve our knowledge and detailing for a better quality of construction on site in all of our projects.

Energy Efficiency is always high on our agenda. The energy used in housing, accounts for 28% of the total energy used in the UK (2017 Energy Consumption in the UK). 60% of this is used to heat our homes.
The government are slowly changing the Building Regulations towards an increase in insulation levels and a reduction of air leakage in new build homes.
We are working with our clients to reduce energy consumption and fuel bills further on new builds and extensions with a ‘fabric first’ approach.
We understand the importance of designing and detailing spaces with a low space heating demand.
Incorporating renewable energy technologies such as solar panels and/or heat pumps can be an important consideration. However, first and foremost we try to employ the principal of avoiding the demand in the first place.
